Prof Dr med Philipp Kellmeyer, MD, MPhil is Juniorprofessor for Responsible AI and Digital Health at the University of Mannheim, School of Business Informatics and Mathematics. He is also the head of the Human-Technology Interaction Lab at the University Medical Center Freiburg (Department of Neurosurgery). His research interests are neurology, cognitive neuroscience, neurotechnology, neuroethics and AI ethics, human-technology interaction in medicine, and XR technologies.
Furthermore, he co-leads Nexus Experiments, a platform that designs and curates participatory projects and events at the interface of science and art to foster public dialogue on the ethical and societal implications of technoscientific research.

Since 9/2023, Dr. Kellmeyer is Juniorprofessor for Responsible AI and Digital Health in the Data and Web Science Group at the School of Business Informatics and Mathematics at the University of Mannheim. His research focuses on participatory and partaking-oriented approaches to developing AI systems, social robots and XR systems, especially for digital health applications, with a specific focus on value alignment, trust and responsibility.
He is also a board-certified neurologist and heads the Human-Technology Interaction Lab at the University Medical Center Freiburg (2019–2022: Neuroethics and AI Ethics Lab) at the Department of Neurosurgery. He studied human medicine in Heidelberg and Zurich and received a M. Phil. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Cambridge. As a neuroscientist he has worked in the fields of neuroimaging and translational neurotechnology, in particular the clinical application of medical technologies, such as brain-computer interfaces, assistive robots and VR systems. He is a scientific member of the Center BrainLinks-BrainTools at the University of Freiburg. From 2018–2021 he was a Research Fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) in the “Responsible Artificial Intelligence” research group. He is also an affiliated researcher at the Institute for Biomedical Ethics and History of Medicine at the University of Zurich, where he also teaches biomedical ethics. Since November 2020, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Neuroethics Society (INS). In 2021/22 he was a Fellow at the 4th Intercontinental Academia of UBIAS on “Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence”.
